Good news for all u rrb fans out there, I hear our calendar is filling up nicely! I haven’t actually checked it myself, but somebody told me we’ll be headed to new York city and Chicago soon. I can only assume that means we will be hitting up all the cities in between as well. We’ve had a much needed break waiting for all the snowy winter weather to pass us by. I can almost smell spring in the air, and that means its time to strap on our traveling shoe and ride. Can’t wait to see what this year holds as we get ready to come to a city near you!

The holidays are over and I’m glad. That’s right I said it. I put away the tree, all my red and green decorations, my 20 strands of lights and my attempt to top Clark Griswold are taken down and socked away for next year. Finally.

Ok I admit it, I was a little sad to see the lights go. And that empty space where the tree was did look a little lonely and dark. So i woke up early this morning, put on some coffee and one of my favorite Stones records and sure enough, I had an epiphany. All that empty space was like a blank canvas, waiting to be colored. Like a drum beat with no bass yet, just waiting to be mished, mashed and molded into something new and exciting. By the time I had to flip the record, I remembered we have a new album to make, new tunes to write, record and jam. Hell, we already have a good handful to get us started.
What a great time of year to do it too. The whole country decides, “ok everyone, clean slate, start over again from scratch and lets get it right this time. Oh, and let’s kick it off with a huge music fest in one of the most beautiful settings in the world, underneath a snow covered mountain with all your friends so we can all get reacquainted.”

Now that’s how I like starting over.

Steamboat time is here folks, so pack up those warm socks Aunt Whatsername got you that you thought were a crappy gift, and at least face the new year with some good tunes, good times and warm feet. See you on the slopes!

Goodbye 25 minute set. We had a great time with Miranda, Justin and all the bands and crew but we are ready to stretch out and play a real show! Just want to give a little shout out to all the folks who showed up early enough to see us out on the Revolution tour. Hopefully we will see you all again soon from a full throttle, no holds barred, RRB headlining kind of show.
If you missed us Halloween weekend at John T. Floore’s Country Store, you missed a double dose, one rockin and one scary rockin. We all did a re-enactment of one our original childhood frightfests, Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
YouTube it if you’re too young to remember that one. That video scared the crap out of me when I was a kiddo. Check out our multi-talented sound engineer Christopher McCoy’s pics of the night at

http://www.flickr.com/photos/mccoy78/sets/72157628047738570/

But Halloween is over and for that matter so is most of the year. Just a couple holidays left and we’ll be on our way to Steamboat before you know it.
And what better way to finish the year and start a new one than with some new tunes! We spent a couple of days last week trying this new technique we heard rumors about. It’s called “rehearsal” or “practice”. It actually works pretty well and if you keep your ears open and we might just sneak out a new tune for your listening pleasure. Who knows? Guess you’ll have to come out and see us to find out. Stillwater awaits, see y’all from the stage!

Saturdays are almost always our best shows. Or more accurately, the last day of the run is usually the most “in the pocket” show of the week. Maybe because we’ve had a few shows to iron out the kinks or get in the groove but its almost always true. If you also have the added bonus energy of your all-time favorite baseball team who has never been great your whole life clinch their second World Series visit in two years pushing you forward, you might have yourself a recipe for success.
Isn’t it funny how a totally unrelated activity in which you have no control over and in reality has no real bearing on your life can influence you? Thanks for the shot in the arm Rangers, next stop World Series.
I could go on about how music and baseball are inseparable but, hey, if your reading this, chances are you already know that. Anyway….
End of the week awards go to:

Nampa Idaho. Best grouping of RRB fans that far north of the red river at a non-headlining show AND best outdoor haunted corn maze/haunted house I have ever seen.
AND the biggest pig I have ever seen. Seriously. Scary.

Billings, Montana, Surfer Joe’s. Best beach bar in a landlocked state. Also credit for a tasty burger and Sunday funday football.

Missoula, Montana. Best scenery, running trails and record stores. Also best salsa north of the red river. You get the “Most like Austin, Texas in the 70s but with Mountains Award”.

Yakima, Washington. Our best show of the week, and the Rangers win the ALCS for a trip to the world series all in the same night. Must be something in the water up there.

Honorable Mention to Portland, just because it’s a cool city.

That about it does it folks. The wheels are pointed south and east, our bags are packed, the gear is stowed and hopefully all we are leaving behind are some new fans and some great memories. See ya in Missouri.

P.S. The new Little Known Facts Bout ‘Merica: Mount Rushmore video should be up and running for computer viewing under the Flicks tab on the website, but we’re having some trouble with the mobile version, but it’s coming soon, I promise.

Well, it’s almost time for one of my all time favorite events, the RRB annual for the sake of the shot golf tournament! This year the tournament is especially cool for me because it benefits HAPS, Houston area Parkinson’s society. My dad has Parkinson’s, and I know the services they provide to him and the rest of the Parkinson’s community are invaluable. All the details you need are on the rrb homepage as well as rrbgolf.com. We need everyone to come on out, play some golf, listen to some awesome music, and raise money for a great cause! I will see you there, November 14 with my knickers on!

I like it out west. Easterners, im sorry but its true. My opinion may be slightly skewed because it hasn’t been Texas hot, I’ve seen rain more times in the last week than I’ve seen in 3 months and it just doesn’t seem as crowded out here. They’ve got mountains, cleaner air, and generally a more laid back attitude than, oh, anywhere you have to sit in traffic for more than 10 minutes. I haven’t seen any traffic in Montana. I think it’s actually illegal here. If they could just work on that below zero weather that happens half the year, I’d consider dual citizenship.
Missoula, kind of like Austin, belongs to a unique group of towns that all have something in common. Ft. Collins, Portland, Tulsa, San Luis Obispo, Seattle, Santa fe, Athens and a few others all revolve around local businesses. Most of the stores, bars, restaurants, etc, are locally owned and run by regular folks who can offer something your average chain outlet can’t. Originality. Theres only one Earcandy Music i’ve ever seen. As far as i know, they haven’t franchised the Voodoo Donut from Portland to Biloxi. Most of these towns even have “record stores”. With “vinyl”. (even a few “EPs”)
Thanks locals for helping me find original copies of Thin Lizzy records, unique gifts for my lady, being funky and fresh and generally standing up to the man. You rock.
